Scenario BIM Central - Autodesk Integration

Contents

Overview

Scenario BIM access benefits:

  • BIM model is available to all Users with Scenario access to the BIM Process Register.
  • Scenario does not replace the design office or BIM Manager; it rather promotes the published BIM content.
  • It provides the 'History' of BIM Model progress in Scenario.
  • 2D drawings that are still needed for temporary works, detailing, etc. ….  Scenario provides both 2D drawing view and 3D Model viewing.

Viewer Tools

Viewer Tools

These are a variety of tools that allow you to view, navigate and examine a BIM Model in detail. However, these tools' availability depends on the type of file that you are viewing. For example, the First Person tool is only available for 3D files. In general, after selecting a tool, you can still continue using other tools. For example, after you started to use 'Pan' tool, you can zoom in and orbit.

Below are the tools, grouped by use/purpose with sets of information that describes each and how to use them.

Orthographic

Switch the Model's projection to OrthographicClick dropdown or Click RMB on View Cube, then click "Orthographic"

Orthographic Projection means all the lines in X axis are all parallel, same with the line in Y axis.

This type of projection provides a means for describing the exact size and shape of the model.

Orthographic

ToolDescriptionHow to useTips

Perspective

Switch the Model's projection to PerspectiveClick dropdown or Click RMB on View Cube, then click "Perspective"

Unlike Orthographic, this type of projection shows that lines in each axis are not parallel.
This is because "Perspective" presents the Model as what is perceived by the human eyes (lines/objects further from the eyes appear smaller and lines/objects nearer to the eyes appear bigger)

Perspective

ToolDescriptionHow to useTips

Perspective with Ortho Faces

Switch the Model's projection to Perspective, but retains the Views as Orthographic.Click dropdown or Click RMB on View Cube, then click "Perspective with Ortho Faces"

in this projection, 3D View is Perspective but 2D View is Orthographic.

If you set the Projection to "Perspective" only, the Front, Left, Right, Top and Bottom Views still shows projection on all parts, which means it's not completely Flat/ in 2D view

While if you set it to "Perspective with Ortho Faces", all the 2D Views show a completely flat view - without projections (see comparison below)

Perspective - 2D View (Top)

Perspective with Ortho Faces - 2D View (Top)

Create New Document

DescriptionHow to useTips
Creates a Document that will be linked to the BIM Document.
Could be a Request for Inspection (RFI), Technical Queries (TQ) etc.
Before clicking the "+ Create New Document", make sure to set first  your desired viewport in the BIM Viewer.
(eg. If you want to raise a Document pertaining to a specific equipment in the Model, set your view where the equipment is the main focus.)

Click "+ Create New Document" on the Action bar.

A window with a dropdown menu will appear. In this dropdown, you can choose which Document Register to create.

Click 'Ok'.
(The BIM Viewer will create a snapshot image of your current view and that image will serve as your attachment to the Document that will be created.)

After clicking 'OK', the BIM Viewer will become a Mark-up screen where you can write, draw or highlight within the snapshot image.

Once done, Click 'Save'. You will be directed to the Document Form of the Register that you have chosen and you can start filling up the Fields.

Save the Document.
(The Snapshot that you have marked-up will then be automatically attached to the Document that you've created.)

This Document is now linked to the BIM Document.

The reason behind setting first the viewport before clicking "+ Create New Document" is, once you have chosen a Register and clicked 'OK', the BIM Viewer will take a snapshot of your current view, save the current view as an image, and from there on you can mark-up the image.

How Do I Load and Advise?

Note - BIM Register must be created first.

1. Register a BIM Model and Upload the corresponding BIM Format.

Once a BIM format file is uploaded onto a Document, the system will transfer it to AutoDesk for processing.

Note that the File name of the uploaded BIM Model should be renamed to be the same as the Document No.

Recipients are advised in one of two ways:

  • Using Scenario Document Transmittal process, advise recipient, ie traditional process.  DT linked with actual BIM Model.
  • Or simply advise Recipient/s using Conversation function.  Then proceed to ‘share’ Model with Companies required.

 - Full History always maintained

2. Open the BIM Viewer and Create New Documents

Note – Registers displaying in the BIM Viewer Register drop down are those Registers flag as ‘Available in the BIM Viewer’.

Usual configured Registers to appear in BIM are TQ - Technical Queries or RFI - Request for Information.

The User will be allowed to mark up a screenshot of the BIM model when creating a new Document.

Mark-up the BIM Model screenshot then Save.
